A team of  five people appointed to spearhead the establishment of Soroti University of Science and Technology was inaugurated recently at a function presided over by education minister Jessica Alupo.

 Prof. Robert Ikoja was appointed the new vice-chancellor and four others including a lady.

The Government pledged up to sh15b towards the construction of the university. Over 700 acres of land have been secured in Arapai sub-county near Teso College to house the public university in Soroti District.

Other members on the team include Lawrence Too-Okema formerly a lecturer at Gulu University, who will be in-charge  finance and administration; Ruth Achimo Etibot, also from Gulu University will be the university secretary; James Okello, formerly deputy academic registrar Makerere University is the academic registrar while former Katakwi LC5 chairman Stephen Ilemukorit will the administrative assistant.

President Yoweri  Kaguta Museveni was among the founder members who supported fully the idea of promoting science and technology at the  Arapai campus.
